Nokia anunció en una nota de prensa que firmó un acuerdo con América Móvil para brindar servicios de locación en América latina a través de Nokia Maps.
Ambas compañías colaborarán en brindar servicios de locación - mas allá de mapas detallados, lugares de interés, locación de personas y actividades sociales - para usuarios en América Latina.
Este acuerdo puede significar una nueva dimensión de uso de los servicios GPS que hasta ahora se limitaban a la geoposición, abriendo las puertas a un amplio abanico de posibilidades con el uso de GPS.
América Móvil es una compañía radicada en México, por lo que se espera que comiencen por ahí, pero anuncian que se expandirán a los demás mercados en donde América Móvil esté presente.
Actualmente, Nokia maps es un servicio sin cargo, aunque los usuarios que deseen guías habladas deben pagar una suma - bastante elevada - para obtener estos servicios. El éxito de esta integración dependerá del precio ofrecido al público entonces.

This collaboration in Nokia Maps is part of a broader partnership between Nokia and América Móvil in the area of value-added services. The companies also announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding related to broader services collaboration. By combining América Móvil's marketing, customer and service expertise and Nokia's strength in device development and integration, the two companies are looking to jointly lead innovation in 3G data services in Latin America.
The Nokia Maps service is made available free of charge in all Nokia GPS-enabled devices. Users wanting the voice-guided navigation service will be able to purchase it from the operator. América Móvil is one of the first mobile service providers in the world to make this capability available to its customers, starting in Mexico in March, and coming soon to other markets where América Móvil operates.
Nokia Maps, with GPS functionality and featuring location-based services, will empower users to expertly navigate, whether searching for an unfamiliar address in their home city or exploring a vacation destination. Consumers can see the world in a new way, with maps for more than 200 countries and millions of points of interest. Making finding your way easier than ever before, users can now plan their route street to street, city to city, or country to country. They can view different perspectives, including satellite images, street maps, or combinations of the two - and all through their Nokia device.
Nokia Maps gives consumers access to world-class car navigation with visual and voice guidance in 46 languages, for over 60 countries. For those needing the last mile assistance or pedestrian guidance in town, consumers can get turn-by-turn navigation instructions with the Walk feature on their Nokia device.
