\nSeguimos con el segundo Shock del d\u00eda. De acuerdo a lo declarado a BusinessWeek<\/i> por Andy Rubin, responsable de desarrollo de Android para Google, la versi\u00f3n 3.0 Honeycomb no ser\u00e1 lanzada como c\u00f3digo abierto por lo pronto, y continuar\u00e1 as\u00ed al menos en el futuro cercano<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Esta noticia realmente es un shock, debido a la naturaleza open source de Android. Generalmente, Google desarrolla una versi\u00f3n de Android a puertas cerradas, para luego distribuirla a socios de la industria y finalmente abrir su c\u00f3digo fuente para que cualquier desarrollador pueda accederlo y modificarlo como quiera, y esa apertura es uno de los emblemas del OS<\/b>, sobre todo para enfrentar en argumentos a otros como el iOS de Apple.<\/p>\n

Android 3.0 Honeycomb es una versi\u00f3n especialmente dise\u00f1ada para su uso en tablets, al contrario del branch 2.x que est\u00e1 destinado a smartphones y del cual Google libera su c\u00f3digo fuente oportunamente. Pero seg\u00fan Rubin, para desarrollar Honeycomb y poder competir decentemente con el iPad 2 de Apple<\/a>, Google tom\u00f3 un atajo para desarrollar Honeycomb, sin pensar en su uso en smartphones. Debido a ello, lanzar el c\u00f3digo fuente de Honeycomb podr\u00eda “crear una mala experiencia para los usuarios.” a lo que agreg\u00f3 “ni siquiera sabemos si funciona en tel\u00e9fonos”.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Es por eso que Honeycomb no ser\u00e1 publicado, al menos hasta tanto el desarrollo de Android se unifique en una sola versi\u00f3n eventualmente, que permita asegurar su correcto funcionamiento en todos los dispositivos por igual – probablemente con la versi\u00f3n Ice Cream, del cual a\u00fan no tenemos fechas concretas.<\/p>\n

Por supuesto, los detractores de Google y los puristas del c\u00f3digo abierto utilizar\u00e1n estos argumentos para atacar a Google, asegurando que la compa\u00f1\u00eda pretende tomar control de un proyecto que tiene un crecimiento muy r\u00e1pido.<\/p>\n

Que significa para el usuario com\u00fan? Probablemente muy poco, aunque no podremos ver tablets desarrolladas por otros fabricantes que no sean Motorola<\/a>, HTC<\/a> y LG<\/a>, incluyendo miles de fabricantes chinos. Por otro lado, la protecci\u00f3n de un ecosistema que podr\u00eda generar un aluvi\u00f3n de tablets y smartphones de muy bajo costo, pero con una experiencia de usuario horrible, bajo la marca Honeycomb, estropeando el esfuerzo puesto en el sistema operativo por Google, fabricantes de hardware y miles de desarrolladores dependientes del ecosistema mediante aplicaciones, ports y dem\u00e1s.<\/p>\n

Andy Rubin confirm\u00f3 igualmente que Android continuar\u00e1 siendo Open Source y que “no cambiaremos nuestra estrategia”.<\/p>\n
